Pilgrimage to Viking Places

Published Friday 20th June 2003 by Eleanor Course

33 Church Choirs from Norway are making a pilgrimage to Viking places in the British Isles to commemorate the origins of Norwegian Christianity. This unusual journey is taking place from 20th to 27th June, beginning in Orkney, Ireland and Winchester.

This pilgrimage culminates in a Choral Service at York Minster on Friday 27th June at 2pm. This service will be a celebration for the end of the tour, and everybody is most welcome to attend this service.

Over 400 singers are making this journey, and hope to uphold the cultural links between Norway and Britain.

Leader of the Bjorgvin Church Choir Association, Olav egaard, said, "Your church music and your fantastic Cathedrals will always fascinate us. Therefore we know that this pilgrimage will give us great inspiration. We hope that our visit will give you some inspiration in return".
