Minster Family Carol Concert

Published Wednesday 3rd December 2003 by Eleanor Course

York Minster will be hosting its annual Family Carol Concert on Friday 12th December, at 7:00pm. The Minster Choir will be singing traditional Christmas carols, and the audience will be invited to join in with some songs, including well-loved favourites 'O little town of Bethlehem', and 'God rest ye merry gentlemen'. The choir will be joined by the St William Singers, and the Band of the Yorkshire Volunteers.

The seasonal readings will be taken by Ian Carmichael and Jane Lapotaire. Ian Carmichael has appeared in many classic films including 'Private's Progress', 'Lucky Jim' and 'School for Scoundrels', and is now appearing in ITV's spin-off from 'Heartbeat', 'The Royal'. He has recently been awarded the OBE. Jane Lapotaire has been a leading member of the National Theatre and the RSC for more than thirty years, and starred with Anthony Hopkins in the film 'Surviving Picasso'. She has recently published a second volume of her autobiography, 'Time out of Mind', which has already been serialised by the BBC.

All proceeds from this concert will go to support the Minster Choir. Tickets range in price from £10 to £2, and are on sale from The National Centre for Early Music Box Office, St Margaret's Church, Walmgate, York Y01 9TL, telephone 01904 658338 or email boxoffice@ncem.co.uk.
