An extremely fine example of 15th century glass painting, thought to be the work of John Thornton. It shows incidents in the life of St William, a 12th century archbishop of York whose shrine stood near the High Altar until the Reformation.
This window has undergone major conservation work by York Glaziers' Trust.
Nearby is a reconstruction of the Chantry and tomb of Thomas Savage, Archbishop of York 1502 - 7. Chantries were chapels endowed for prayers to be said for the souls of the departed. There were over sixty such chapels in the Minster before the Reformation.
