Banker/Fixer Masons
Closing Date: 11th August 2010
We have two vacancies for experienced banker/fixer masons in our workshop. Applicants should have experience in ecclesiastical stonemasonry and a genuine enthusiasm for the craft. Knowledge of stone conservation methods would also be beneficial. At York Minster an extremely high standard of workmanship is required with all stonework being finished by hand (no grinders or pneumatics.)
These posts commence as soon as possible and are offered initially on a fixed-term basis for six months, but may be extended by mutual agreement.
The salary for the posts is £22,009.07 pro rata

Apprentice Joiner

APPRENTICE JOINER,
YORK MINSTER STONEYARD
The York Minster Stoneyard is one of the largest in the country, and a centre of excellence for many crafts. A rare opportunity has arisen to train as an apprentice for up to four years, working with and learning from highly-skilled joiners in stunning religious and historic setting.
The Apprenticeship starts in September and includes a programme of part-time study at York College. We are looking for a reliable enthusiastic apprentice with a strong interest in developing joinery skills and the ability to contribute to the work of one of the great cathedrals of the world.
The starting salary for the post is currently £4.82 per hour, this will increase with every successfully completed year of the apprenticeship.

Reception/ Bookings Assistant

RECEPTION/ BOOKINGS ASSISTANT
York Minster is one of the great cathedrals of the world. It is also a venue for a wide range of events that reflect its purpose and daily life as a working church. We have a full-time vacancy for a reliable, enthusiastic individual who will welcome visitors to the administrative centre at Church House, and also administer bookings.
Responsibilities will include operating the switchboard, signing-in visitors and undertaking general administrative responsibilities. They will also sell tickets over the phone and process internet bookings for concerts in the Minster.
Applicants should be educated to A-level standard or equivalent, have advanced Word and Excel skills, and high standards of customer service.
The salary is £15,000 - £16,000 p.a. and the post commences as soon as possible.

Head Banker Mason
Closing Date: 12th August 2010
The newly-created post of Head Banker Mason will play a key role supporting the Yard Manager in the leadership and supervision of the Banker Mason team.
The Head Banker Mason will be a leading presence in the workshop, ensuring high quality craftsmanship, professionalism and productivity within the team, as well acting as supervisor and point of contact in the absence of the Yard Manager.
Applications are welcomed from fully-qualified banker masons with a broad knowledge of other processes like carving and setting out. High standards of workmanship and productivity are also required.
The salary is £23,316.60 p.a.

Labourer
Closing Date: 4th August 2010
A vacancy has arisen working as a labourer as part of the historic Stoneyard of York Minster. The successful candidate will be involved in general labouring tasks, and cleaning and lifting, with particular regard for supporting the staff of the buildings and services function. Labouring experience is essential; basic plumbing and building skills, together with a driving license, are desirable.
The salary for the post is £16,349.40 pa
