Worship in the Minster

The Minster is first and foremost an active church. A frequent question we are asked is: "Do you still hold services here?" The answer often surprises: "Yes - around 30 a week".

Central to Christian life is our worship of God and our relationship with God through praise and prayer. Worship takes many forms, from joining in one of our regular services through to lighting a candle or offering a silent prayer. Worship and prayer has been offered on this site for over 1300 years and everyone is welcome to join us either as a visitor or a regular member of our community at one of our services.

Our services are open to all. Now and again there are special services which require a ticket; any restrictions are notified in advance in the published notices and on this web site.

We will also hold additional services on important dates in the Christian calendar; the weekly events list gives further detail.

You are warmly invited to join us at anyone of our services. Our main Sunday service is at 10.00 and includes a Sunday School for children of all ages. Tea and coffee is served after this service in the Chapter House and where you can meet our Community. (photograph: Jeremy Fletcher)
