Fond farewell to Philip Moore

Published: on 23rd July 2008 by Alix Peacock in Minster News

Philip Moore was given a fond farewell on Sunday afternoon following his final Evensong as Master of the Music at York Minster.  Mr Moore conducted the Minster choir for the final time in a lovely service of Evensong held in the packed Nave of York Minster.  The service ended with the reading out of choristers, choral scholar and organ scholar, and a presentation and farewell to Mr Moore.

The Revd Canon Glyn Webster spoke of Philip's service to the Minster over the past 25 years and the hope that his retirement as Master of the Music will allow him more time to compose and further enjoy his career as a musician.  He also read a message from the Dean in which Philip was given the title Organist Emeritus of York Minster.

Philip was presented with a cheque which he wishes to put towards a watercolour of the Minster and he spoke of how lucky he felt that he has been able to pursue the career he had always wanted to and work in several wonderful cathedrals.
