The Centre for School Visits caters for groups from far and wide.On Thursday 24th April we were delighted to welcome a large group of pupils who were visiting from Capetown, Abuja and Middlesborough.
The visit was part of a British Council-led collaboration between 9 different schools in South Africa, Nigeria and England. After being greeted by the Dean and a quick photo call, we divided for tours of the Minster.
I was looking after the South African contingent and we were approached by the duty chaplain who was keen to meet the students from Capetown. He had been in South Africa a few weeks before to conduct the marriage of his son. When he mentioned the part of Capetown he had visited everyone started nodding, and one member of staff piped up that she had been born there! It really is a small world.
However the prize for the school who travel furthest to visit the Minster each year must belong to St Hilda’s School. They have had an annual visit to the Minster for the past 10 years, all the way from Buenos Aires, Argentina!
