    THE LADY AND THE UNICORN - A Mon Seul Desir (Only at my Will) - A stunning Jacquard wall tapestry, woven in a wool blend. Embellished with medieval style acanthus border. The original tapestries are the most celebrated set that have survived from the medieval period. They consist of six, now in the Cluny Museum, Paris. Depicting the five human senses and the sixth called "A Mon Seul Desir", Designed in Paris and woven in Brussels around 1470 by Willem de Pannemaker for Jean Le Viste (arms shown on the standards), whose family originated from Lyon and served Charles VIII. Here the graceful Lady's gesture replacing an item from the casket can be seen, In the loosely strewn flowers all kinds of animals disport themselves. Even the smallest details are reproduced with great care.

    LA PROMENADE [16th Century] - A highly detailed woven tapestry. Original wall hangings are early 16th Century, consisting of a set of six' tapestries now in the Musee de Cluny, Paris. They consist of: The Walk, Reading, Embroidery, The Bath, Scenes of Gallantry and Falconry. They form a portrayal of the favourite pleasures a pastimes of Lords and Ladies at the time of Louis XII, around 1500. The originals are woven on fairly thick warp and the colours are all of vegetable origin. Shading or transition from dark to light, is achieved by means of yellow & white hatching. This process gives the impression of light failing from the top of the panels and creates a strong affect of decorative unity.

    Licorne Captive, The Captive Unicorn

    THE CAPTIVE UNICORN - 15th century. A fine Jacquard woven wall tapestry embellished with a medieval style acantus border. The originals are a set of six' wall hangings woven in the 15th century depicting the unicorn hunt, this panel the sixth, shows the unicorn seated within an enclosure in a flowery mede. Note the 'mille fleur' (thousand flowers) style, i.e. covered with tiny flowers, among which can be seen pansies, ragged robin, violets, daisies, harebells, bluebells, periwinkles a other wild flowers. Gold, silk and fine wools were used in the weaving of the original. Woven in France for the family La Rochefoucauld which adorned their chateau of Verteuil. The series was sold for 1,100,000 dollars in 1923 to Mr JD Rockefeller and can now be seen in the Metropolitan Museum New York.
