Sisters OHP at York Minster for over 30 years

The sisters of the Order of the Holy Paraclete have been a part of Minster life since 1972.  The current Sisters OHP resident at the Minster are Sister Janette and Sister Linda – familiar faces for all who are part of the Minster Community.

“Paraclete” is another word for the Holy Spirit and is translated from the Greek “paracletos” which means “the one who stands along side you to help you”.  This is a fitting dedication for the order, and also for the part the Sisters play in the life of York Minster.

Sisters Linda and Janette help in many aspects of the Minster’s life, from worship to greeting visitors, taking guided tours, helping on the information desk, sharing in  the pastoral care of visitors and congregation, and stewarding at the Minster Library, among many other duties.

They are both familiar faces to all who are involved in the life of the Minster.  Sister Janette has been at York Minster since 2000 and Sister Linda joined her in 2002.

Sister Janette

Since joining the Order of the Holy Paraclete more than 40 years ago Sister Janette has had a varied ministry in the UK and overseas. This has included social and community work, university and prison chaplaincy, non-teaching involvement in schools, and a short posting at Lambeth Palace. At the Minster she greatly values sharing in the worship, and enjoys time spent with a wide range of people.

Sister Linda

Sister Linda was brought up in Hull, and has been part of the OHP Community since 1989.  She has spent time at several other placements including St. Oswald’s Pastoral Centre and in Leicesterwhere she served as a Parish Sister. Sister Linda most enjoys her time spent meeting and talking to people at the Minster and the variety in her work here at the Minster.
